Creativity is everything. It's given us some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring things in the world! Not just in writing, but in so many areas, like art, theatre, technology, just to mention a few.
BUT! Giving time and space to creative ideas can be difficult, often getting squished down by daily grinds, routines and responsibilities.
Understanding Creative Ideas and where they come from.
Creative ideas pop into our minds, allowing us to visualise things like solutions to problems, stories yet to be told, and those comebacks to an argument that you wished you said!
There's a skill in creative thinking that people don't acknowledge often enough, and that is just how hard it is to have a 💡good idea! 💡
However, simply having an idea is not enough; it requires nurturing and exploring to give it life and create something amazing. (And that's where we can come in - if your idea is for a story, that is 😁)
A study from Adobe found that "individuals who engage in regular creative activities report higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction."
This implies that creative ideas are not just beneficial for projects, but essential for our overall well-being.

The 4 Reasons for giving into your Creative Ideas
So, being creative makes you happier! Here's some of the benefits:
Problem-Solving Abilities: When you let your creativity shine, you become skilled at thinking outside the box. This makes for awesome ideas and creative story outlines to flourish, and creative solutions to plot holes to pour in.
Know Yourself Better: Exploring creative outlets means also exploring your own secrets. As you work through creative problems (be it at work, in your writing, or in other creative areas) you'll learn new things about yourself.
Research shows that creativity can improve your emotional intelligence too!
Super People Skills: When letting your creativity flow, you'll find that you'll meet a whole new community of people just like you!
This allows for a safe space to discuss ideas and explore new perspectives with like-minded people.
Improved Brain-action: A study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology noted that creative tasks stimulate the brain's areas responsible for reasoning and problem-solving.
And 5 Ways to give yourself space for more Creative Ideas
So, creativity feeds not just the soul but the brain too!
Here's some easy ways to give more time the 'creative you'.
1. Make space (literally.)
Make a little creative zone in your house that tickles your creative taste buds!
Choose colours that make you feel good, (we're quite partial to blues, pinks and yellows 💁♀️) pick lighting that helps you relax, and make it comfy!

2. 'Do not disturb.'
Set time aside for your creative self. Just like you make time to sort your bills and call your mum, make it a priority to set a time that's non-negotiable for you to work on the hobby that sparks your imagination. This could be for brainstorming, sketching, writing, or crafting.
Treat this as an important appointment with an unmissable friend, only this time you're the unmissable friend.
3. Let yourself fail.
Fear of not being good enough can often stop us from starting or even considering starting a project.
Will it be good enough? Will people hate it? Am I wasting my time?
All questions are valid - expect those ones!
None of this matters because you never waste time doing something you love, it'll be good enough because the only person you're doing this for is you and if other people hate, then they aren't your audience.
Celebrate small achievements. Even if the only thing you feel you can celebrate is that you stuck to the time allocated to the hobby today.
That's amazing! You showed up for yourself!
4. Let others help - if you want to!
Having fresh perspectives on things can really help us 'see' our work and keep us on track. Sharing our work can make us feel vulnerable and it can be difficult hearing any feedback but collaboration can spark new ideas and perspectives you might not have considered.
Let someone review your work - like we do for our clients. We provide review and feedback services, even for projects we haven't written, so our clients can get the most out of their manuscripts.
Always be open to learning more.
New information stimulates creativity. Spend time researching and developing new skills and your ideas will grow, and so will your skills.
We have an awesome short book on idea development that might help speed up that process for your next project!

In Long Term.
Giving yourself the gift of time to work on your creative ideas is about more than just immediate outcomes. It has lasting effects on personal growth, and your own wellbeing and happiness.
Remember, every great achievement started as a simple idea. By nurturing your creative ideas, you hold the potential to influence the world around you, one brilliant idea at a time.
